FINISH STRONG AND GROW STRONGER!

As 2024 draws to a close, we can reflect on a huge year.

Not only have we delivered solid outcomes through industry enterprise agreements, we have grown the power and influence of your union, implemented new and improved working conditions for members and developed your local representatives.

With solid foundations through our enterprise bargaining strategy and framework, our results continue to speak louder than words.

Bonus days and reduced working hours are being introduced for more and more members while your rights on the job are stronger to challenge and demand fairness from management.

In this year alone we recruited over 900 new RTBU members and held a record-breaking conference with more RTBU representatives in attendance than ever before.

The conference lineup packed a punch with speeches from our National Assistant Secretary Shayne Kummerfeld, Minister for Public Transport Gabrielle Williams, other union secretaries and our legal and industry partners.

Shayne spoke on the power of our national all-grades industry union in flexing its muscle as a united block and the Minister spoke on the significant work and support of rail and public transport workers in putting life into the network, supporting upgrade projects and the significant advocacy done by the union to ensure they get it right. Other union leaders highlighted the importance of solidarity.

Workshops provided an opportunity for delegates to raise questions, consider strategies for 2025 and get an understanding of new workplace laws introduced by the Federal Government put power in the hands of members and delegates.

While 2025 is shaping up to be a significant year implementing further improvements and continuing our advocacy in all forums on key topics such as safety, work pipeline, job security, and corporate accountability, I want to take this opportunity to wish members a safe Christmas and Happy New Year.
