The Victorian Branch of the Rail Tram & Bus Union (RTBU) has over 7000 members across 6 Divisions in the passenger rail, tram and rail freight businesses and has coverage of all grades in rail and tram including drivers, rail operations, infrastructure and workshops.
The RTBU is the industry union in public transport.
The RTBU represents its members on every issue affecting their working lives in areas such as health and safety, collective agreements, job security and discrimination.
Our union has been in continuous existence since the 1860's and has been immersed in industrial and political struggles since that time.
Our delegate structures are vibrant and active in dealing with every challenge thrown up by management or Governments and our union puts its stamp on every issue affecting the industry.
The RTBU covers all grades and occupations and our membership is formed into the Rail Operations, Tram & Bus, Administration & Salaried, Infrastructure, Locomotive and Workshops Divisions.
The RTBU has grown bigger and stronger since privatisation occurred in Victoria in August 1999 and we want all new employees to join up on day one of starting in our industry.
Since the privatisation of public transport the union has ensured that our public sector conditions have been preserved and transmitted into the agreements with the new companies in public transport. These conditions are contained in awards, collective agreements and in other agreements, and include free travel passes, annual leave travel passes, superannuation, long service leave after 10 years, 15 days sick leave per year, maternity and paternity leave and a host of other conditions.
The Victorian Branch of the RTBU is affiliated to the VTHC (Victorian Trades Hall Council), and the regional Trades and Labor Councils, the ACTU and the ALP.
Join the RTBU and be a part of a true industry union which has an absolute commitment to continuously improving the working lives of its members and to shaping the future of public transport in Victoria.
